I've had this GM tool for greasing the rear Spindles and have never used it. It slides over the inner end of the spindle after you have taken the half shaft and the spindle yoke off.
Has anyone used this type of tool and can you tell me, do you have to pull a seal out to make this thing work? Also does it really to the job or is it alot of work for nothing?
Thanks for any info,
Dave.
i have one, and used it once, i rebuilt the rear bearings a few months ago, and it looked like the grease only made it into the inner bearing, none on the outer one, alot of work for nothing.

It only does about half of a grease job. The only way to grease the bearings is to pull the whole assembly apart. And if you are going to do that you might as well have the bearings replaced and re-shimmed.
Did a lot of research here and elsewhere before I rebuilt my T/A's, and the consensus is that this tool doesn't work. I've tried a few tools for greasing wheel bearings over the years, and there's no substitute for packing them by hand so you can see that you've got adequate new/initial grease. Very important with C3 rear bearings...
Thanks everyone. I replaced my bearings about 15 years ago and have never tried to grease them since. I tend to agree with the consensus, I don't think much grease gets in there and probably none to the outer bearing. I only put about 1500 to 2000 miles a year on this car so maybe it doesn't need it. But I do take it on some long distance overnighters and I want to guard against any road casualties.
Thanks again.
