Default 1979 courtesy light delay module test

1979. Is there a way to test the courtesy light delay module or bypass it. My courtesy lights work from the headlight switch but not when the door is opened. The door switches function as designed(complete the ground when the door is opened) and I have 12v to the module. I don't care about the delay feature so a jumper of some sort would be ok.
Thanks
Mike

Look on a wiring diagram(don't have mine here) My delay went bad, I unplugged it, and used a jumper between the wires that will complete the circuit to make the lights come on, I think I jumpered between the two white wires on the plug if I remember right. I ran it that way till I found a cheap take off replacement. The lights just come on and go off with the door switches that way. I found another module and like it better with a good module. Good Luck

Edit: Here is a write up that will help from another thread:

The module works this way:
When doors are closed the interior lights stay on for ca 30sec.
Lights are turned off immediately if ignition key is turned to on. Lights will come on for 15 sec after ignition key is turned off.

Very convenient as long as it works...:-)

You can bypass the module by shorting the two white wires connected to it. (ref shop manual drawing)
The doors will then control the lights in a conventional way.

Things to check (I assume that your lights are always off):

1. Courtesy fuse and that 12 volts is present at the light bulbs.
2. Lights should come on if you turn the light **** until it clicks.
3. When module is disconnected, ignition on, light switch not in "click position" and doors open, three of the wires going to the module should be 12V. The remaining two should be shorted to ground.

Common problem. My courtesy light timer too is toast, so my lights are set up to just work with teh door opening. One day I'll fix that one too. Does anyone know if the timer for our Vettes is specific to Vettes? I remember my moms 81 Malibu had that feature, and wonder if it's the same timer? If so, maybe that would be a cheaper alternative to the replacement modules sold by the resto parts companies.

I puchased mine new a few years ago from one of our sponsers on this sight. If I remember correctly it wasn't very expensive and I think Cadillac uses the same module..

I would like to figure out how to fix one of these. Mine works so it would give me something to compare to. I have fixed a few wiper delay controllers for folks on this forum.

I had similar problem, bought new circuit board yesterday and replaced it, worked as soon as I hooked it up with the door open. Depressed the passenger side door jamb switch and lights went out but upon release they DID NOT come back on. Checked the fuse, it's ok checked bulbs, they are ok. Tried jumping from white to white and got a small spark. . . now my glove box light is out and Im at a loss here. Do you think I fried a brand new board when I depressed the door jamb switch or do you have any other ideas?
