Ok before we talk about rebuilding a q-jet and all that, if thats not an option....and i have a SQUARE bore Edelbrock rpm intake, what carb would you choose?? Make model?? Thanks.
For now stock l-48 , probably getting a zz383 next year but for now Im looking for other options. That said, since the q-jet pushes 750cfm, would the wise choice be another 750cfm carb? holley 4160?
With a square bore one should size it properly to the engine, so many sizes are offered.
The GM solution
Q-J- Small primarys huge secondary. With the spreadbore the small primarys allow velocity, response & fuel economy while the huge sec. provide capacity.
Used on nearly all GM V8s w/ 4 bl. since made from about 300-500 c.i. Basically the Q-J sizes itself to the engine so the "750" rating is not being used on stock 350 like L-48.
So my question is how can i tell what cfm my stock carb was? The only mods i have made to this motor so far are the intake man, fuel pump, electric fan, headers/exhaust, msd dist.
I just bought a holley 4150 double pumper from summitt racing for my 350, think it was $323 brand new, 650cfm, if you are going 383 prob need a 750cfm. I have had these carbs on a 350 before, they work well, simple and proven.
