Default 4 Speed Linkage

Shift linkage for a 4 speed. 74 coupe, Muncie M21. Is the factory linkage comprable to Hust comp plus? I need to puchase a shifter and linkage for this project. The shift levers on the factory linkage have 2 sets of wholes for the rods, can you shorten the throw? The Hurst only has one set, are they shorter for a shorter throw? Is there an advantage with the Hurst? I have a buddy who swears by the Hurst buts its designed to fit a wide veriety of applications and I'm looking for something thats works well, fits the car and will stand up to a little abuse ( its a corvette and needs to be driven like one )

I don't know if the Hurst shifter fits in the same position of the stock shifter but one thing for sure it is not comparable in any way. It has far shorter throw and is a lot more precise.

I would think the stock shifter with the short throw will work fine for the driving you want to do. It's not made for "power shifting" and as Mad Vette said the Hurst is a lot more precise. Also, the Hurst bolts directly to the trannie case so you will get some stick vibrations and shake that you don't get with the stock unit since it bolts to a bracket mounted to the cross member.

I have a Hurst in my 81. The shifting is great in all gears but a little hard to get into reverse. Originally I had a straight shifter post, I changed it to a slightly angled back post. Now I no longer need to lean forward to get into 3rd. Al

When Duke says vibrations, read that as it "rattles loudly going down the interstate" Of course there's enough other noise going on around my car that it's not a big deal to me, but both my vehicles with Hurst shifters do that. You can replace the bushings with plastic ones instead of metal to decrease it some, I run the metal ones because I like the more precise feel.

Thats what I'm looking for. How is for fit through the console? Are you using the stock shift console plate? or does it take some engineering to make it work?

I installed a Hurst in my 78' and it fit perfect, came right up through the shifter boot like the OE unit.

The Hurst is about the same throw as the stock unit using the short throw holes.

I was surprised that the c5 tranny is in the back of the car. Weight distribution advantages I would guess.
