I have been checking prices on a new convertible top installation. I plan on getting an Al Knock top kit. So far the least expensive estimate has been $500.00 just for installation. They say it will take between 10-12 hours labor. Is this in the ball park, or are they taking advantage?

In the ball park and a reasonable price. You are paying for their expertise.
Just the same, lowest estimate might not be the best way to go. Do you have any referrals for the other shops?

Get the Al Knoch video and decide if you can do it yourself. My buddy and I did mine over avout 6 hours and it turned out very nicely. Just took some time, no rushing and making sure before we stapled or cut anything.

I did my own also using the Al Knoch video. I watched the video a couple of times and then my buddy and I started it on a Sunday afternoon. I finished it by working on it about an hour at a time in the garage over the course of 3 or 4 days. I am very happy with the way it turned out.
