I have been reading the "search" posts on muffler selection, and it seems that the Magnaflows get great reviews. I have a 1971 roadster with a GM ZZ383 crate engine and have just installed a set of full length Dougs headers(1.75" primary pipes into 3" collectors). Could someone provide me with a part number on a set of stainless steel Magnaflows that will work well with this motor and be an easy install. I am doing a frame off resto, and have absolutely no parts for exhaust system install, other than the automatic transmission mounted pipe hanger on my turbo 400. I plan on having 2.50" pipes, (hopefully mandrel bent), installed with an "H" pipe, and the Magnaflows. Do you think the shop doing the the pipes can supply quality hangers for system, or should I supply those along with the mufflers. Any info is appreciated.
I've heard the same things about the Magnaflow mufflers. I hear they flow better than Flowmaster mufflers and increase HP a bit more. I'm thinking about going with a pair of Magnaflows. I have to say, the Flowmaster mufflers sound way better though.

This is my Magnaflow setup with an LS motor. My camera is setting directly on the ground. The car has a much deeper sound to it I think than what you can tell here. I am going to try again this spring for some better video with my wife's Canon and see if it does a little better than my Sony.
On this video someone posted that you could just skip to the 1:35 and start there to get a better idea of how they sound under some loud pedal.

How does that hanger mount to the tranny? do you have any pics. Is it the same as the hanger that your selling to me?
Here are a couple other short vids of the 16841 system. I should be legal this Spring so if I take a drive down to the in-laws in Kingston I'll let you know. I can stop by so you can hear the exhaust in person.
If you shop at Planet Magnaflow, try making them an offer. You might be suprised at what they will accept. The worst they can say is no.
There are three types of performance mufflers and many of the makers sell all three. There's the chamber muffler, the turbos, and the straight throughs. So when comparing or asking about a certain brand, you need to know which of the three types you're referring.
It would be good advice to listen to the three types because they're each VERY distinctive and questions about which sounds best will be answered with subjective opinions. Your opinion is the only one that matters, so listen to other cars.
Some like the the chambered Flowmasters. To me, they sound like cheap loud tin cans.
Some like the MagnaFlow straight-through muflers. To me, they sound like deer farts through a pillow.
Some like the deep mellow tone of the Dynomax Super Turbos. To me, just right!
I did a Magnaflow catback system after I rebuilt my engine. I went to the shop that stocked a lot of muffler options and he put them on one at a time so I could hear the difference. Sounds crazy, but my day job is in the music industry, and I play in bands on the weekends. Anyway, you won't regret the Magnaflows - beautiful, low, dark sound. They're plenty loud & mean sounding, but my neighbors still like me, if you know what I mean.
Flowmasters don't sound bad (a little more "pop," a brighter sound), but the thing that really put me over the top was that the stainless steel Magnaflows have a lifetime warranty. And I plan to keep this car for a long time.
Good luck - post some videos so we can hear it when you're done!

Now, that is a muffler shop to keep in touch with! I like places like that and they get all my biz. The trans shop that reworked my Turbo 350 is that kinda place too. They custom-ordered the stall convertor to my specs and yesterday I had the trans serviced there. It's been six years and 25K miles since I built the engine and had them do the trans.
They treated the car and serviced the trans like it was an old family member. I was very impressed. Sounds like your exhaust shop is that kinda place too. Give 'em all your biz.
Another option is the Hooker Aerochamber mufflers. They come in stainless, have a straight thru design but it's a hybrid....half chambered, half stainless steel packed straight thru pipe. They have a unique sound to them. Very deep and thumpy, but not at all raspy or crackley like a glass pack(magnaflows or ultraflows). They sound great at idle and relatively quiet going down the road but still sound strong when wot.
I have always liked how Flowmasters sound but couldn't deal with the HP loss, we put Magnaflows on my dads L79 Vert and it barked and crackled like a glass pack under acceleration so he changed them. The Aerochamber sound similar to a flowmaster, just without the tinny echoing sound and no HP loss.
They do drone a little around 1800 rpms in the cable, it's not TOO bad but it does it some. I think on a milder motor it would be a perfect mix of sound and not too loud.
I also want to buy Magnaflow´s for my ´68 BB. I only need mufflers and I want in/out 3".
Can you tell me where to buy?
Actually I have Headers with Flowmaster mufflers. The sound is not bad, but I have a drone inside of the car at low rpm, and that sucks! Here the Flowmaster sound
Thanks, Günther

About the "drone": I get it from about 1450 to 1550 rpm. I don't have headers (yet) on my small blick but I'm running a MagnaFlow cat & mufflers. The drone is only right at about 1500 rpms, and it isn't that bad, but it's definitely there.
Left field reply but I have them on my 06 dakota and I love them. Put a catback stainless in from them and it sounds awesome. And thats a 4.7 liter dodge motor LOL.
