Engine pops and back fires when going down hill...
I have a 72 L48 turbo 400 with headers going into 2 1/2" pipes and flow master mufflers. The cam is unknown. The car runs well with good off idle response and it idles well with a small lope. I noticed that if I am going down a hill and I am let the engne slow the car it pops and back fires a small bit. Is this normal?

air is getting into the exhaust system causing the back fire. check for exhaust leaks by having someone hold a rag in the tail pipe and listen for a hissing sound at the joints and around the headers. :chevy

If not an exhaust leak, check that carb idle mixture not set to rich and the timing is set correctly.
