When the L-88 was built it could run on pump gas of the time. So it has really always been a pump gas engine except for the fact that our Pump Gas got so bad you could not run such an engine on it lol.
Back when this engine was put on the street you could purchase pump gas with greater than 104 Octane leaded. Or you could call it Ethel .
So that is why over the years compression ratios have gone down from 12.O to what is run today of between 9.O and 10.5 but if you have aluminum heads you could bump that up to 11.O.
