Pump gas means it does not need race gas. It will run on standard gas that yo ucan get from the pump. Most of the L88s had 12:1 compression and would not run on 93 octane gas.

When the L-88 was built it could run on pump gas of the time. So it has really always been a pump gas engine except for the fact that our Pump Gas got so bad you could not run such an engine on it lol.

Back when this engine was put on the street you could purchase pump gas with greater than 104 Octane leaded. Or you could call it Ethel .

So that is why over the years compression ratios have gone down from 12.O to what is run today of between 9.O and 10.5 but if you have aluminum heads you could bump that up to 11.O.

600 HP A990 426 Race Hemi. One of about 300 crate engines built for Drag Racing with the mag crossram intake and with a single 4 bore for NASCAR......google 'A990 Hemi for details on this unique racing engine like no other....AL426HC is all thats stamped on its pad
