Interesting things found when rebuilding block.
I'm having my L-82 rebuilt now. The engine has never been opened so it is all factory with 101k miles. He found two things in the oil pan. First a connecting rod nut which must have been there since new. Second, one of the piston skirts broke a piece off and was in the pan also. Luckily no damage was done as the block and cylinders look real good.

When I was 16 I had a 78 Nova with a straight six. One day a connecting rod came loose and I drove 2 miles home with it clanging around. Dad just put a new connecting rod in and it was fine. Still runs to this day for the guy he works with that bought it.
