Default 76-82 Convertable What give's

I have noticed that some of you have a convertable on a non convertable car.
I was just wondering about the conversion.
Who does them?
What kind of a job did they doo?
How?
How do they compare to the origional jobs?
And of course How much?
I always loved a convertable and it just might be an option later in life.
Thanks for any info. :) :) :)

American Custom Industries used to convert 80 - 81 Corvettes to Duntov Turbo convertibles. However - this was not the only change that they did to the original vettes .... :)

They also added a Turbocharger and a completely new and improved body!
There is a interesting article in my "FOR SALE" ad. (takes a little bit to load all the photos)

American Custom Industries is still in businiess!

you can do it with a donar 'vert from earlier models....I think a convertible rear deck for a '74 is under a grand...beyond body work, all you'd need is the top componants, the window frame(for latch mechinisms), then like 2 interior peices.....if you got a hard top, you wouldn't need the rag top stuff....It doesn't look like to much work IMO....you just need ***** of steel to cut up a coupe.

Well, I happen to be one of those cars you are refering to. However, from what I info I have on my car, it started as a 73 vert. A previous owner had the body of an 80 layed over the frame from of a 77 (the 73 frame was rusted). The frames are basically the same regardless. I know of someone here in Charlotte that can do it. He custom made the rear deck for his 80 vert and it looks perfect. He has the skills to custom make the parts for the conversion and has turned his 73 into an 80 vert also. I really love the 80 body with a ragtop. Would not have a vette any other way. O.k maybe a 67 ragtop! There is a guy on the Corvette Action Community with an 82 vert. I don't know if he had it done or purchased it that way. Goes by the name of topless82. You could maybe ask him.

Regards,

Jim

Mine started as an 80 and 68 - 74 parts were used. Was supposed to have been done in Vancouver BC. They were supposed to have done 10 but I don't know if this is true or not. Who ever did this one did a great job. It's one of the reasons we bought this car. Unique. Plus, I don't have any guilty feelings when I want to change something when I get the urge.

Your vette is an amazing piece of work. I'd love to own that car.

Jim... Is your Charlotte friend in the business of doing this? I'd be interested in getting some info passed my way if you can find out.
