Default 69 Early...late Build ????

How do I tell if a car is a early or a late built car. The car in question is in the 24000's. What is the cut off between the two?

Thanks Ron

Ron
your vette was built between June and July 1969. Production started in September 1968 and ended in December 1969. I would consider it a Late build, but thats just my opinion

I may be a late build but that could mean little with some parts. I have found a mix of 68, 69, and 70 type parts on my car. I was told by Forum members that it was whatever GM assmeblers had in their parts bins went on. My Vin is in the 26,000s and was a Aug 13 car. Almost woodstock weekend. some of the people there probably built my car the next weekend.

Ron, I thought it varied depending on what feature you were looking at. Ask Stan. :) MJ

MJ, thanks for the lead in... (I left the money in the usual place... Small bills as always... ;) )

I guess that I'm with MJ and Clink in that the terms "early" and "late" are relative... It has been my experience that it really depends on what feature you're talking about at the time. There are no hard and fast rules or serial number breaks that define the entire production run; each item is going to be a little different.

If you are simply interested in how your car, 24###, falls in relation to the other cars in the 1969 production run, then I would agree with Scott that, in the big picture, your July 1969 built car was assembled relatively late in 1969 production... Even considering the long 1969 build that ran into mid December of that year.

However, despite the fact that your car was built later in the 1969 production run, it still has some early features. The windshield wiper door actuator, for example, is still the early style "can" design which was used into early October 1969 (at which point the "pie pan" style replaced it in production). In this example the early cars constitute nearly the entire production run... For other features the changeover point is different.

It all comes down to what point you are discussing at the time.

Regards,

As far as I've been able to tell, 'early' or 'late' doesn't matter except the 1968 year.
And yes, GM does mess-up on occasion, even today ! :p:
Yours is after mid-year prod. and is most likely late but it's still a '69 vette.
Mine's #6948 built Dec. '67 and is an 'early' 1968 model. :hat
In other words, you'll have little problems getting the correct items for your car. As for me, I've got my work cut out for me !
HEY - if anyone runs across '68 parts to get rid of - give me a buzz !
