Default engine question

ok, im at the point where want to make some mods to my engine for the better. however, all i know for sure is that it is an L-48. the previous owner said he left it alone, but said that the guy he bought it from put in a new cam, carb and heads and said that it was around 250 or so horsepower. whats the best way for me to find out exactly what i got under the hood?theres no place near where i live to get a dyno to find out the horsepower. all i can think of is to take it to a garage and they could possibly guess what is aftermarket? any ideas?

Default Re: engine question (guitarangel)

Everything has numbers on it, well just about everything. The cam will be a mystery. Pull the air cleaner and copy down the numbers will be the easiest. You will probably have to pull a valve cover to get the head number, some people can tell by the casting marks on the front of the head. Look for numbers like 882 cast in the valve valley. After you get all the numbers post them and we can tell you what you have.
