Default X-pipe location preference

I scored a used, but like new, C6 Corvette 2.5 inch X-pipe set-up from Doug Rippie Motorsports (Very cool guys out there!!) today.

Is there any wisdom as to the preferred location of this. I suppose the choice on a c3 is right after the tranny or right under the rear spring.

Take any thoughts on that.

Brent.

That is the only place it will fit.

That's a great location for the X-pipe.

Two reasons for an X or H pipe, one is scavenging so you want it closer to the front near the motor but impossible for our C3's so it has to go further back.

Second is to mellow out the sound and resonance, doesn't really matter where it is for that. If you can get it just behind the front crossmember like the pic above that is probably the best you can do. Mine is under the rear spring

My H-pipe is right behind the crossmember.

That looks like the magna flow x pipe. Did you buy it as a kit or just fab up the pipes to the x. I am looking at doing the same set up as I am also installing flowtech headers at the same time. Also, did you have any issues with the brake cable going over the top of the x pipe.

I ended up with this set-up and it was all I could do while retaining the original tranny crossmember. Works out nicely. No drone, no popping and sounds very smooth and idle and part throttle, but gets V8 loud when revs are up past 3K. Just needs paint now

Yes, it is the Magnaflow system 16842 but I modified it so it would have tips that fit my 73 exhaust cutouts. I did not see any issues with the brake cable.

This system was way too loud and had too much resonance. I was ready to toss the Flowmaster 50s but we tried this x-pipe first. Volume went way down and the resonance disappeared.

Looks good Brent. Nice and clean.

Alan, is that part of your header on the driver side in front of the blue oil filter? Am I seeing things, or are there some crazy custom bends in a few of the pipes??

Looks great under there. Looks like a C5/C6 X? I notice an H pipe also upstream from your X - was the resonance there with the H, or did you add that when you did the X?

I also have an X under spring/diff - I'm happy with no resonance in the cabin giving me headaches like before my conversion (X done at time of conversion).

The H was there all along. I think the H helps flow but does nothing for sound. I think the x did come off of a Vette.
