yestherday I took my 82 out for a ride, I put 20 bucks of gas in, which gave me about 3 qurters of a tank. it ran great all afthernoon. I took it out again today and it ran great. I parked for about an hour, then it wouldnt start. it has good spark and strong spray from the injectors.when i put gas rigth into the carbs it would run. could it be water in the gas? run good then not.......
the 82 has 2 carbs with a injector mounted ontop of each, called TBI's or trottle bodie injector, you can pour gas into them just as you do any carb, open flaps by working the cable and pour in.
the psi for the 82 crossfire is somthing around.....11 psi, this is not enough for the tbi's so i did what most do and installed a fuel pump for an 85, which is aound 18 or 19. most of the time this solves the idleing problem these car are known for.this worked out great for me, i did this 5 years ago.40 psi is for newer cars
Wouldn't think it was water, it's heavier than gas and would have got sucked out of your tank first. If it sat for a long time maybe, but not after only an hour.Definitely sounds like a fuel flow problem. Do you have an in-line filter that could have gotten clogged? Or electric fuel pump that quit. Pull your fuel line and make sure your getting good flow to the injectors. I'm not up to speed on the TBI so past making sure you have good fuel flow I'm stumped.
with the tbi's you can see the fuel spray down into the carb. the spray looks strong but i cant be sure just by looking so Iam going to change the fuel filter by the weekend and if the problum is still there then Iam going to change the pump
well last nite i changed the oil, oil filter, fuel filter and the o2 sensor then i disconneted the battiery for awhile too clear any codes (check eng light was on) this cleared codes and the car is back to running great again. Iam a happy 82 owner again
