I did it 20 years ago with my son, and we still work on cars together. Now I save the hard stuff for him, he's my BIG muscle! :D
Budman you have a very unque opportunity to make another first class 'vette mechanic out of him, and keep him out of mischief. The time you spend under the hood with your son is going to pay benefits for many, many years.
My grandson is 3 mounts old now, and I plan on breaking him in on wrenchen' as soon as he can walk. :D
It's funny, our 15 month old loves to pat the Vette, cares less about the Hondas. :D He can start helping Dad when he quits eating everything that fits in his mouth.
Budman,
I sure hope my engine looks that good when my son is 6!
It's fun to involve the whole family in working on the Vette (even the wife at times.) My oldest daughter's fiance helped me with SS brakes on the Vette several years ago (OMG it was almost 9 years ago!). The family new that he was "in" with the old man when I actually let him drive it after the project.
Small children are also useful for under dash rewiring jobs... :D
Yeah, they fit in places we don't, and twitch less than we do when shocked!!
Enjoy your kids while they are still young and impressionable. Teach them well, and love them dearly. These days of bonding, will pay off in dividends later, when friends and social life begin to play a more important roll in their lives than the "old man". You'll seldom see them, and talk to them even less as you throw the car keys to them as they fly out the door. My 15yr old hangs with me occasionally, but friends and fun have taken him away from me. I sure do miss my "best friend". I can only hope I have served him well, taught him right, and raised a good person...as he speeds off into the night.
(cue...Crosby Stills Nash & Young) "Teach Your Children Well" :( :( :( :(
Don't suppose I could convince you that my six year old Beagle (might as well be my son since we don't have any kids) not only guards my parts, but installed the miniram on the vette for me?????
