Default fuel bubbles?

Last fall while driving my 79 I touched the throttle to pull out into traffic and it stalled and allllllmost died leaving me in the path of oncoming cars After straightening up in road and wiping my seat out i matted the loud pedal and the engine started cutting out/studdering between 3k and 4.5k then smooths out to 6k before the shift. So then I parked it...untill today. I awoke it from its winter hibernation and let it warm up to temp (about 200) and it started its usual antics. Sneezing/coughing thru the carb when you blip the throttle *sigh* So im scanning around under the hood while its running and notice thru my clear fuel filter that there are lots of bubbles coming thru the gas line from my mechanical pump into the carb! It was worse than the bubbles in a fish aquarium! I thought maybe i had a crack in my fuel line somewhere and were sucking air but I cant find any leaks anywhere. I did a search earlier and found a post about fuel perculation? Is it normal to have bubbles in your gas line? Maybe i got a bad fuel pump with the crate engine. BTW my car has a crate fast burn 385 w/coated hooker super comps and an edelbrock 750cfm carb. Has anyone seen or heard of this before?

Sounds to me like a fuel pump problem. I recently installed a rebuilt fuel pump (wanted an original vintage pump) on my car and had similar issues. Replaced it with a new AC Delco and that fixed it.

How about a slightly loose hose clamp or fitting that doesn't let fuel out yet allows air in under suction? A small crack in the line near the tank might do this also. Isolating the line and applying gently compressed air might be one way to eliminate the possibility.
