Default Rear End Questions

Bought my 76 a few years back and decided that I would tackle projects a little at a time. This was my first attempt at a "frame on restoration". I am by no means a mechanic or a body expert. The first project was to rebuild the brakes all around with new calipers, rotors, and so forth. Next was the front end suspension followed by the rear end suspention. Motor and bay were detailed with a couple of simple mod's that included an Edelbrock intake and carb, true dual exhaust with ceramic headers. This week I'll be finishing the interior, carpet, seats, and door panels. I'm looking to be on the road by the end of next week. With the help of some freinds, I plan on rebuilding my stock L48 motor this winter. As you know the stock 3.08 rear end with an auto trans, simply cannot get out of its' own shadow. I want to have a dependable driver when I 'm done, but would still like to smoke the tires at will. Will I have a noticable change by going to a 3.36 or 3.55 before the motor rebuild? I would like to try and get the rear end swap done now prior to the motor rebuild.

If your going to change the gears before the engine rebuild and your rebuilding this winter, it dosent matter what the gears will do for you now, you just need to get it done regardless. Ask these guys what gears you want to best match the engine your going to build. Thats the question you want..

I changed from a 3.08 to 3.36 and noticed the difference. It isn't much difference at all, very slight.
