Is it agreed that the cotton insulated resistor wire used on our points/condensor equipped cars, does indeed, provide 12v to the coil?

The wire's job is to limit "current"; not voltage.

Yes? No?

No... please look up a basic voltage divider network, I posted a wikipedia url for the formula. if you read that, it should take away all doubt. that is why if you take a DVM to the coil when the engine is running, you will not see 12vdc.... take a DVM start your engine and you will see for your self.

V out=V in* L2/(L1+L2)

Inductive divider
Inductive dividers split DC input according to resistive divider rules above.
Inductive dividers split AC input according to inductance:

The above equation is for ideal conditions. In the real world the amount of mutual inductance will alter the results.

No, you're still missing the point. Consistently diverting threads entirely off topic by questioning the other persons' technical background and then comparing 'who has the biggest d*ck' is pretty juvenile. That's why I stopped responding to your and other posts on the rear end thread.

Having said that, this is off topic. Sorry to the OP.

ok, fine.. but I am not off topic, I have answered the original question, maybe its just that I do have the math, and you still have "once I looked over someone's shoulder at lunch......" seems to me your still a bit pissy that you have no proof whatsoever of your statements on rear end play, thats why you stopped responding.... so this is just a jab?. ... pitty...

I have to say that I had NO idea how points ign worked (before my time i guess) however I have learned a few things in this thread.

I have no dog in this fight however I do know 69427 and worked at one of the OEM's that he worked at back in the day. He is correct in saying there is a LOT of vehicles on the road do to his work along with some of the LT and LS electronics used in the Corvette. I will not get into specifics (that is his place if he wishes) however I can verify he was at the top of his field and his work VERY important at the OEM.

That is very cool....

I reread the thread, and the first time i read it i may have misunderstood his meaning... Again, sometimes writings can be misinterpreted, and we may have been saying much of the same thing....so, if i misinterpreted his view, im sorry, truly... , ... but still, very cool.. I would love to work in R&D again.... I was R&D with rockwell, now Boing, about ~10 years in the R&D lab for the B1-B bomber. Was a lot of fun, but I think the best time there was when they let me both design and build the communications tower for the B1-B test aircraft.

thank you, p:-)
