The gas in my car is what was there when i bought it a few months ago. Drive it home and started to tear it down right away. I noticed the gas color is more orange than usual. What is that???

The gas has either had a additive put in it or it has gone bad. Old gas will turn yellow or slight orange and loose its octane. Probably best to get it out and put in some fresh gas.

Just receintly I drained some fuel from a '68 Charger rebuild project, and the gas from that tank was orange also.
hope its not rust, the gas cans i have for the lawn mower have been sitting around longer than the gas in my 68,and there still blueish color. but my vettes gas is also yellow orandeish, but i do add sta bil to it for the winter time,i also have a rust issue. the only reason i know that ,is the old owner had put on a clear fuel filter and i could rust in it. so i change them often, theres also a filter near the tank,, ill be replaceing the tank soon. good luck tom
Can you post some pics or explain how you did the shut off valve? That seems like a good idea. I might change the fuel lines anyway. How hard is the tank to take out?
my car came to me with a foot and a half of rubber hose coming off the tank , so i used vise gripes to clamp off the hose so it wouldnt drip on me. actually i got drenched the first time and my arms turned purple from the gas sucking into the sweatshirt i had on. but , vise grip the hose nearest the tank as possible to stop the gas flow then insert a fuel line shutoff valve, which i could only find in 3/8 th. in. at a store called parker, which is affilated with parker hannifan who makes all kinds of valves etc.,, it was easy for me because i already had some rubber line to work with, i understand you have to take off the rear sections of the exhaust system to lower the tank itself, but may not be terribaly hard to do, im not at that point yet,,,, tom
