How does the 255/60R15 work...I thought 255 told you how wide your tires were but my friend says the 60 says that...I want to put wider tires on the rear when I put new tires on my vette soon

How does the 255/60R15 work
255 is the width of the tire in millimeters.
60 is the percentage of sidewall height to width.
15 is the rim diameter in inches.

There are some nice PDF charts with actual tire sizes at http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com

With stock trailing arms there's really not room for anything wider than 255, though some have reported being able to go to 275.

255/60/15

255 milli meters wide.
60% of width is height so 255mm * 0.6 = sidewall height (need 2 for diameter)
Diameter = (2 * 0.6 * (255mm/25.4mm/inch)) + 15inch = 27.05inch
15 " rims

see tirerack.com Tech pages for description.
