Speedo cable removed from Tranny

Since I had no leak before I removed the cable, I presume it is because (as I understand) transmission oil is splashed up in that area and without the cable it leaks out. Any ideas anyone?

Sounds like one of the orings in the speedo gear housing is worn out. Pull the housing out and check whether the gear shaft is worn out or the o-ring that seals it. Replace wither or both and it should be good.
