You don't need to completely remove the trans, just unbolt the torque converter and the trans and push it back far enough to get to the flexplate bolts.

If you take the spark plugs out you should be able to rotate
the motor and get to all the bolts.
What everyone here is telling you....replace the flexplate with a new one. The damage on your existing one will only get worse with time, and eventually leave you stranded. It's not hard to do if you have mechanical skills
This may be a little of a bubba trick but you can drop the insepction cover below the flex plate turn the engine over until you can see the stripped or broken tooth and put a good weld in the area and file it back to the correct tooth shape.

Just done this very job myself - and its not a barrel of laughs it must be said !!. Very tight squeeze.

Bubba or not it will save a ton of work...........and if done right, it's good as new!
