I can't for the life of me get my fuel pump fittings to seal right. Its a edlebrock pump, 3/8 npt fitting. I tried teflon tape, teflon paste (loctite thread seal). Still wants to drip. Whats the deal!!
Don't know the correct name for the threaded fittings on the fuel pump but the flared end of the metal line must be firmly pressed against the mating surface in the fuel pump fitting. You want the threaded nut on the fuel line to screw all the way in and push the flared tube end firmly against the fuel pump mating surface. The pressure between these 2surfaces make the seal.
Clean your threads on the nut and in the fuel pump fitting(remove teflon tape, paste, etc). Then oil the threads and tighten them up. I used WD40. I had the same problem on a new fuel pump for my 71. Once I oiled the threads and tightened them really good, my leaks stopped. I used a flare line wrench on the nut and a backup wrench on the fuel pump fitting so I didn't bend it.
This is an aftermarket pump so the fittings are not the flared ones, they are just which ever 3/8 npt barb or tube fittings you pick to use with them. (russell makes them, mr gasket etc)
I had the same issue with mine its an edlebrock BB chevy pump 110 gal/per hr. 350-1722
It would seep from the fittings. They are NPT threads with no flares.
I found the threads were buggered up. The threads were not nice clean threads it appeared their threading machine was having a bad day and the threads were actually rough to the touch like a fine hacksaw blade.
Yeah I tried every sealer out there, Same thing going on with my holley fuel pump too. Sigh!!! I give up. I just tried it again tonight, same thing, I let it sit overnight with the sealer and it still leaks like crazy. Your right the threads in the pump are aweful.
Get an assortment of o-rings at your local hardware store. Find the one that's a best fit for the outlet on the pump. Install, then screw in your fitting, preferably with silicone.
I tried to use Mr gasket fittings, regular 3/8 npt to 3/8 barb fittings (local auto store) and I even went to home depot and got some fittings. Problem is theres no room right there so I've been running a 90 degree fitting . Not that that matters but the point is none of the fittings I mentioned above will screw all the way down. (IE theres always a thread or two left) There's no way they will without forcing them (in a vise type of force) So maybe I just got two crappy pumps! I might go to an electric at this point (maybe the fittings are better!!)
Any suggestions? Pump and 90 degree fittings? Maybe some summit part numbers? Assuming the use of 3/8" fuel line.....
