When I put my car into gear on my 82 corvette, it does nothing. I can put it any any gear (drive or reverse) and the car will do nothing. It still acts like it's in park. When I have the car shut off and the keys out of the ignition, I notice I can move the shifter to any gear. It does not stay locked in park.
I had no symptoms prior to this incident that anything was going wrong with the car. Has anyone experienced this problem or do you have any idea what may be wrong? Thank you for your advice or feedback.
Hmmmm, I would get underneath the car and see if you can any linkage came loose/unbolted from the shifter. Trying calling a trans shop and see what they say. I can also move the shifter to any gear with the car ignition locked. Not sure about that one. That is probably not normal.
prev post right on. Conection broken or loose can do this. Low ATF or a stopped up filter can also do this. And (hate this one) a tranny in need of rebuild can do this.
If linkage is not loose, are you ok with dropping the pan? It gives you a change to check the filter plus lets you check for metal shavings in the pan.
