Took off my pass. side vacuum canister for the headlights to replace the seals. That was a chore just figuring out how to remove the canister w/o take off the grille (like a chinese puzzle or something). *Tip* - once the canister is loose, drop it down (gently) by the radiator..... then close your hood and remove the canister from underneath (turn it several times to clear the bolts, etc.)
Anyway, now for the tough part ---> How do I get my tie-rod end looking thing off the shaft ???? ...it's stuck & I noticed that GM later provided a welded nut so you won't mark up the shaft ! ...Help :cry
Whatever you do, DON'T put a long screwdriver through the eye and torque it hard. It WILL sheer--the shaft's very mild metal. Don't ask me how I know this.
Soak it for a long while in PB Blaster, then carefully apply torque.
Thanks for the tip.... so far I did try & torque it but I'm not physically strong enough to that much damage.
:smash:
It's been soaking overnight with appliance oil (I'm out of WD-40) and what's PB blaster ?
PB Blaster is what WD-40 SAYS it is... probably the best rust penetrating cleaner you can get. Most of the auto stores carry it. A must have if you own a 68 ;)
