Default Boss 338 Wheels

What would it take to put in a set off Boss 338 wheels on my '74 Vette? It has stock trailer arms and I am looking to lower the car some. Can I put on 18X8 in the front and 18X9.5 in the back without any major mods, or would I need flares out back? Will I need adapters? Thanks in advance.

NO mods, but parking brake bracket relocated to the top. One of the members here, Billyvette I think is his avatar, has them mounted on a '69 I think. I have a set in the same sizes you mention to install on my '73.

They're a good looking set of wheels, and at a good price. What backspacing and offset would I need?

They will fit, front and back. You've got the right idea going smaller on the front. I would go 5" backspace on the back and moving the e-brake bracket as mentioned. It will be close, you may not be able to fit your rear sway bar if you have one.

9.5" here, just zip tied the parking break cable to the TA. Stock everything other than a shortened spring. Which I did with a saw and a drill.

Yes you can ,thats what i have on my car ,they fit great, but you have to move the eb brake bracket to on top of the trailing arm. Also ,on my car i put 3/8 spacers behind my front wheels to bring them out a little, they set in a little too much for me but other people just run them like they are.Spacers were cheap, and it looks better on my car.

Two more question, how much does one of these wheels weigh? Do they weigh more or less then a stock ralley wheel with trim ring and cap on?

I think they are lighter then a stock steel wheel but they are heavier then the more expensive wheels like weld wheels, billet wheels, foose, cottington, etc.but you will pay for then.these wheels are cast aluminum not billet aluminum.

Regards,
I just installed them on my 69, so yes, they will fit. 18x8 front with 255/45/18's, and 18x9.5 rear with 275/40-18's with stock TA's.

But, you will most likely need to move the parking brake bracket to the top of the TA.

On mine the bracket won't hit, but if the cable is in the bracket, the cable will. I just removed the rear part of the parking brake cable since I never used it anyway.

I found where someone else had posted how to remove the rear cable, for moving, without tearing everything apart. And they were right on the money with their advice.

Raise the entire rear of the car.
Remove the rear cable where it attaches to the front cable.
Remove the clip retaining the cable to the bracket.
Pull the cable up to release the spring.

You should now have enough slack to allow for pushing, wiggling, sweating, cussing, and getting the cable off of the "hook" at the drum.

Grind off the bracket.
Weld bracket on the top of the TA.
Push, wiggle, sweat, cuss, and get the cable back onto the "hook" at the drum.
Put the spring and cable into position,
Install the retaining clip.
Connect the rear cable to the front cable and adjust.

Sounds worse than it is.

2/3 hours if you have no beer....

heres mine

18x8 all around. i did'nt feel the 9.5 wheels with 5 inch backspace was enough to clear the fender lip without rubbing. went the safe route with 18x8. if it was 5.5 backspace it would have worked better. will go with longer wheel studs, and spacers next year to bring wheels out to stock.

The 9.5 rear wheels would have fit perfect for yaYou could always buy 2 more wheels for the rear But it looks nice the way it sits. The problem with 5.5 bs is that it puts the tire really close to the trailing arms,at times it will rub.The tire cant balloon out at all either, has to be even with rim, which might be hard to find that tire that fits that perfect,it can be done ,couple guys on here have done it.

IF those rims came with a 18x8 4.5 BS and 18x9 with a 5" BS they would be perfect!

But, that dang IF word....

Can someone explain the benefit of say 18" rims on the rear and 17" on the front?
