Thanks so much. I had no Idea the parts were so expensive. I guess i gotta do what it takes to turn my 75 stingray into the monster I want it to be.
Since you started with a 75, it will be a a good amount of work. Ask me how I know. Searching is your friend. Search anything and just read, read, read. From there you can decide what you want, what is possible and what you can afford. This forum is old enough and popular enough for you to find where someone has been there, done that. It's not always the best solution, but it's a start.
Do not mix and match components by different manufacturers. These upgrades are generally engineered to work as a "set" and as such a Global West tubular a-arm set might not physically accept spindles from VBP. Ditto the brakes... these manufacturers do extensive testing to ensure their products are safe and work as they should... it might be tempting to assemble your own system because pieces and parts are available locally or on eBay but the finished product is unlikely to work as well... and maybe not well at all. Your safety is worth more than whatever money you might "save".
VBP is your best bet for all your suspension and brake upgrades. I have on my 75 their performance plus suspension and rack and pinion kit. great systems that were designed well, compliment each other and drought the cars handling into the 21st century. All you need is a good set of hand tools, twice the time they tell you it will take to install and the money.
if you would like to read more about this, check out this web site corvettec3.ca/. This guy has done more to his 77 and documented better than anyone. There is also a forum if you would like to ask any thing you are iffy about.
Get to work summer is almost here. look forward to seeing you on the road
The best handling improvement that you can make for the money is to look up www.borgeson.com and check out their integral power steering box for the C3. It lists for under $500 and has the power ram built into the box and only 2.7 turns lock to lock. You get rid of the troublesome control valve and power ram that lurk under the oil pan and only use two hoses for the fluid.
It is about half the price of the rack and pinion conversions offered and looks like it came from the factory. It will fit easier than the R&P and has fewer parts as well as less bump steer that the centre take off R&P systems.
The brakes are miles ahead of anything offered on other cars of the time and still stand up well today. Have the major parts checked and rebuilt or replaced as needed. Make sure that the runout on the rotors is around two or three thou MAXIMUM and those brakes will do anything you want them to do if you drive on the street.
If you plan to race the car exclusively, then you might want to make further improvements, but you'd better have deep pockets.
