It's 532 am tow truck just left my house. I got my elc problems fixed and got timing set right for the first time since car has been running and took it on a test drive to get gas. About 1 mile (up hill ) from my house somthing in the rear diff failed after banging threw gears. What my ? is what happened to my ( newly built ) rear end it has 373 Richmond gears.
When I put it in gear and let off cluch only one half shaft spins and I hear a clanking noise?????????http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ilies/mad5.gif
it was late when I looked under the car and I was not thinking the car was on the ground. One whole half shaft was spinning and the wheel was not moving just making noise. So I guess it has to be the spindle of the spinning half shaft. am I right

Yes that sounds like a broken spindle.....You'd better take the rearend out and look at it before more damage is done.
It really sucks that it broke on your first test flight
I have not even put jack under my car to check out the damage, bit I am wondering if the spindle broke why did the wheel not fall off
Because the spindle bearings are a press fit and they are holding the spindle in place but I am a bit surprised the wheel isn't showing signs of excessive neg camber.
If your rear bearings were a "slip" fit the wheel might have come off.
There is a thread by turtlevette that is discussing press fit verses slip fit, interesting reading.

I guess that means I wont be able to just pull the spindle out and replace it with the control arm still on the car
I spoke to the people who built my trail arms they said the spindles in our cars were only suppose to hold up to 400hp or so depending on tires, gears..... Has any one else had trouble breaking spindles with a mild 400 hp or so engine with a 5 speed?

Sounds like you just got "unlucky" - or the T/A people used cheap *** Chinese spindles.
Most broken spindles reported here, show up after 500hp. But tires are a factor as well.
I used Van Steel so Iam sure the parts are quality
Have you been under the car to see exactly where the spindle broke ? I had one last year that stripped the splines out of the yoke and it appeared to be a broken spindle.
Prob close to 700hp here on the stock spindles. Maybe they replaced it with crap if you had it serviced.
Whaddaya mean "IF" he had them serviced?
He stated that Van Steel serviced them - and that they are known for quality parts. We all reading the same thread?
