Have a stock 73 , 350 with a auto trans and would like to give it a little more power with out getting into the eng, Have been thinking about a N2O system. How much of a N2O shot can it handle, and how much differance can I expect??
Don't know anything about n2o, but would think a 50 or 75 shot would be ok.
I just watched Horsepower tv, and they added an 80 shot to a 2000's Camero. It dynoed as an extra 40 hp at the wheels. And a 125 shot added 80hp at the wheels.
Assuming your engine is healthy and in good tune, it will easily handle a 125hp shot. The key is having a good fuel system and the correct tune up for nitrous. You need a GOOD fuel pump, a steady 5psi fuel pressure(flowing, not dead head) to the fuel solenoid and keep the timing conservative....maybe 32* total.....that with a cooler heat range plug and the correct jets in the plate and it will live a long, happy life on the spray....even a stock motor.....you just have to keep it from detonating or running lean. You can easily knock 1 sec off of your ET with a 125 shot.....
Nitrous is great if it's setup and maintained right.....but one mistake and you will be rebuilding.... No room for error with nitrous...and ofcourse there is always a chance something could break in the motor, even if everything IS setup right.
