I found this coiled up and lying under the vacuum canister. It looks like it should go thru the firewall via a matching odd shaped grommet. I don't see any kind of bundle like it on the wiring diagram however. All of the wires are black which makes think is some kind of grounding bundle. Anyone know what this is for?
It's worked fine hidden where I found it since I've owned the car so I'm reluctant to try to shove back thru the firewall grommet half.
That is what this is. There should be a clear plastic lens with a red and blue sections that gets sandwitched between this piece and your console. Do you not have the fiber optic console?
Thanks guys. I do have the fiber optic lens in the console but they have never worked, this undoubtedly is part of the reason why. I'll see if I can find the other part within the console or under the dash.

Thanks again!!
From the looks of your photo there is no "other part".
If you look carefully you'll see that the fiber optic termination plate
is in the bundle there in your hand. It needs to be fished back into the passenger compartment and under the console and connected to the back side of the colored lens. You can check that the work by simply turning on your headlights and seeing if you have light coming out of each of the 6 indicators.
Pure guess work...but, I'm thinking if you are replacing the entire bundle you start at the console and feed it to the front and he started at the front and got to the firewall and went oh shoot! Just my guess. Either way it's an easy fix.
