Well like i figured now that everything is working on my car i am getting the itch to take it apart again. Right now i have the stock L48 block and lower end. It has brodix IK180 heads, a new intake, and cam. I want more power, and i know that the dish pistons are holding me back.
A few questions.
1) what is a good rotating parts kit. I know summit has a lot of those, but i am looking for one that has everything i need.
2) cast or forged crank? how much power can a cast crank handle? If i am looking for high 300s to low 400s can the stock crank handle that?
3)383?
4)is it possible to have the stock block machined to accept 4 bolt splayed caps? it is two bolt now.
ok #1 look to summit or jegs for the engine kit i use jegs, steer clear of the forged pistons for this type of build id use hypereutectic pistons they are alittle more street friendly than a forged piston if u want to spend the extra money for a balanced kit do it remember hp is related to$. #2 cast crank will work fine at 300/400 hp if i remember right L48s did not have a forged crank if u want to use stock crank take it to your engine builder and have it checked.#3 383? 300/400 hp why? #4 be cheaper to find anouther block.with all the quest. u are asking, the heads u are running, cam, intake change,i assume u have headers i cant believe u are not making over 300 hp now prob.350 hp. and u want more power.if i were u i would really think this next build thru pull the orig.engine, put it in storage and build something that will get it otherwise u are not going to be happy, this is called mopower syndrom

thanks for the advice. After thinking about it for a while, i think that buying a short block and moving over my top end may be the way to go.
everyone does and its a good thing.i dont know if u turn your own wrenches or not but regardless someone needs to do the machine work. find yourself a good and i mean good engine builder. they can steer u in the right direction.buying parts that dont work well togather gets real $$$
