Default Clutch questions

Pulled the tranny last night and tore apart the clutch. I am doing a disc only replacement.

I have some slight heat check/ glaze on the flywheel and pressure plate. I was wondering if there is any way that I can prepare the flywheel and pressure plate for the new disk---- OTHER than machining. I have heard you can run into problems when you machine a pressure plate.

Also a real stupid question but I thought I would ask. My throwout bearing is in perfect shape, no perceptable wear and the bearing is in great shape, can I reuse it. I am worried about getting one of lesser quality since the new one would not be a centerforce throw out bearing. I have the bearing # so I am going to find it from another source for cheaper but I am not sure if I'll be able to get it cheaper.

Some pictures are below:

TTT,

Come on guys how do I prep the flywheel and pressure plate. Sandpaper, scotchbrite, steel wool?

Any ideas?

I used a palm orbital sander with fine metal sand paper to prep my flywheel and that should take out anything short of scratches.
As for the throw out bearing. I follow the golden rule: If in doubt, through it out. Replace it, if the cost is not outrageous. Do you want to take everthing back out and fix it again because you wanted to save a few bucks?

I have sanded a few in the past with a palm sander like BLT-71. They were in fair shape with only slight blueing. Give it a try. I also replace the throwout bearing since they are fairly cheap. If you are convinced it is still ok go with it.

Thanks guys.

I have found the Throwout bearing and I can probably get it considerably cheaper than the one from centerforce($50). The stock replacemnt one is a different number than the cetnerforce one, so I want to stay with the one from cetnerforce which is just a NTN/BCA CC-01377- CB. I should be able to get that from any NTN supplier without Centerforces markup on it.

Believe it or not, I don't have an orbital sander... Maybe I can convince the wife that buying one is the proper thing to do...
"Dear if I don't get this the corvette will spontaneously combust"......
Her:"And the problem with that is?"
Me: "It will burn down the garage and then it will damage your garden!"

As you can see the wife only puts up wit my car habit.... she definitewly does not approve of it.

Any suggested grits of sand paper, or just as fine as I can get it?
