I've been working on replacing the clutch on my 70 454 4-speed. I have the trans out and it's a leaker. It appears that the side cover is leaking. Anything I need to know about getting involved with trans leaks?
Someone has peened the front case around the shaft in a attempt to abate the leak.
If you do a search here you can find what others have done to stop or slow the leaks.
Is the side cover leaking from the seam or from the shift lever seals?
For the main shaft you could try using some right stuff gasket goop. Just before install clean very good with break clean, apply some sealent, put some saran type film over the sealent and bolt it down. As for the side cover, that's an easy fix. Just pull off the cover and replace the gaskets.
