Default A/C Question

Does anyone have experience with the new Pro6ten compressor which is suppose to be a direct replacement for the old A6 compressor but has an aluminum body and internally is similar to the sanden 508. I need to replace my old A6 compressor and am considering this unit. I do not hear good things about the remanufactured A6s and a new A6 ($430) cost more than the Por6ten ($345).

No info here but I'm interested in the answer also, I'm sick of the oil weeping from the front seal.

I was hoping to get a little feedback but doesn't look like anyone has any experience with these units. I will probably go ahead and purchase this unit, if I do I will post feedback unfortunately it may be a couple of months.

I did a little searching after you posted and found some chatter about it being slightly smaller in cooling capacity but did not find anyone who had actually installed one and had real world experience. I read that Ecklers sells the same unit, just a different name. It does look the same and it came out about the same time Ecklers started advertising their new one.
I read lots of comments about the A6 being superior in design which is probably true but I'd take slightly less cooling capability to get rid of the oil from the front seal any day.
I'll be interested to hear your results.

Another benefit would be in weight reduction not sure how much but I am guessing it is significant the old A6 weighs a ton.

I have the pro6ten compressor and I like it. It looks fantastic and works well. I will probably change the screws at the front of the unit as they are starting to show a small amount of rust.

I dropped 10 lbs over the old A6 compressor.

Thanks for the feedback!! If it ever gets warm up here again I may be interested in one also. Does it cool as well as the original A6 when it was working properly?

Never heard of the pro6ten compressor, but gotta be better than the ancient A6, as the seal's are real leaker's, no matter what you do. Amazing how many car's had Harrison A6's back in the day, as Ford used them too. A/C compressor seal leakage really doesn't seem much of a problem these day's, so keep us informed.

Yes, the pro6ten works as well or better than the old A6. It is supposed to be more efficient and easier to turn than the A6. I can still feel it though when it kicks on. I have a stock L-48 with 116k miles.

I did the install last Sept and used air thru Oct and into November. It cools very well. I have lately been buttoning up small leaks in the ductwork and upgrading the fan. I really want to put it to the test this spring/summer when the temps get high!

Talked with the guys at old air products at SEMA this last year.
Originals had a little problem (cant recal what they said exactly) but new units are worth it.

What does a complete after market a/c system cost (ballpark guess). I'm going to add this to my '81 at some point (stock system was trashed).

I'm afraid to even guess.
