Default Oil pump driveshaft?

I'm used to working with the late LT1. According to everyone who's ever done a cam swap on one or had the oil pan off for any reason, you should ALWAYS replace the oil pump driveshaft with an ARP or similar shaft. Cheap insurance as it were. But here, the oil pump driveshaft is almost never mentioned in the "What else do I need for a cam swap" type threads, heck it's hardly mentioned at all. Why is is concidered manditory for the late engines, but gets little mention here? Is the older shaft's collar a better design? Just trying to understand.

OEM Chevy has a plastic collar to retain oil pump drive shaft to oil pump. Aftermarket shafts have metal collars on them, I'll let you be the judge of what most people would do if faced with this job (I have never rebuilt a Chevy without replacing this part.)

Since your in the C3 section, I'll go on to baffle you by saying you should always use a lightweight fuel pump pushrod too

Without question I'm going to replace mine, I've seen the plastic clips break more than once. I'm just curious why it isn't mentioned more here.
