Window Regulators

I have the same year and yes, removing or adjusting door glass can be a real pain in the back side. You have to keep in mind all of the run channels, the tracks the glass runs up and down has a bearing on the end result. The glass can also be changed from being too high at the back to too high at the front by shifting the regulator bolts on the inner panel. Same applies to being too far 'in' which I think from reading your post describes the gap at the door felt. Being to far out at the top will allow for water and moisture. In essence you have three variable planes when considering the up and down motion.
You need to go back to pre-disassembly condition to correct the 'glass postion'. Look for old in-prints of the attatchments bolts to get you in the ball park and then start very slight changes to achieve your goal.
As for the regular arms, slop in a rivet as it 'sissors' in the middle will distort your results. You can remove the unit as a whole and possibly service it with bushings or replacement. A word of caution, be careful to secure the arms with a bolt or some secure device if you are going to remove the motor, the arms are under tension by an assist spring and resisted by the window motor cog gear. Once the motor is removed there is no 'gear' and it will act just like a sissor and will remove any digit that maybe in the way.
Good luck.
Dano,
Well I guess Iam back to square one, I will take the window glass back out and remove the regulator and motor and check the slop in the sissor on the driver side, I'll bet it has a lot, I also noticed when I lowered the window the bottom window frame hit the motor and pushed the inside door panel out, so I guess I have all kinds of problems. I will start with the regulator and go from there. How hard is it to repair the regulator at the sissor action and the roller on the regulator. Might try the repair first if it is not to hard to complete, if it is then on to a new one, want to only do this once, and where would be the best place to purchase a new one that is not imported.
Thanks,
Steward
Sounds like a bit of 'slop' at all points. When that gets tightened up the glass will fly up and down.
As for the scissor action on the regulator arms possibly a bronze bushing may work when secured with a collered bolt or sleeve to eliminate over tightening of the two arms. As for the rollers I think you can buy them new, again you may have to use a bushing to take out the slop out of the attatchment hole.
A machinist may be able to help with the fitting of the bushings. Keep in mind the labour may exceed the price of better ones.
Dano,
