Default Will I hit water?

Clearancing a 69 4bolt block for a 383 with 5.7 rods with capscrews. Looks like a fair bit of core shift and I have to grind heavily on 1 side but not the other. How close is water down there has anyone hit it? Its hard to accurately measure the thickness of iron at that point.

Hi Simmo,

I suspect you are grinding material for the rod clearance at the bottom of the cylinders to clear the 5.7 rod, is that correct?

I do not know for certain how far a water jacket would 'drop' down a cylinder wall but if you are grinding the bottom of a 'cylinder web' I don't think there would be water there although I maybe wrong. I think maybe a exploded view or cross section of a small block on the internet may help with seeing how far that water jacket goes down. Just a thought.

Dano,
