Default Pitman arm ?

I think I heed to replace the pitman arm on my 75, it has some play in it when you rock the wheel back and forth.

Any suggestions before i try to remove it. The play is on the pitman arm where it attaches to the power valve..

Any pics of what i will see when the arm is removed?
Pics of a power valve where the arm mounts to would be great.

Any suggestion welcome

The only thing connected to the pump is hoses and a belt.

There's a little confusion here I think. There is no arm on the power steering pump (as said in the above post) the pitman arm is attached to the steering box and power valve. I just took my entire steering out on my 75.

Heres the valve and arm

Thank you ssenay72 for the correction in my thinking of the parts. I have edited my original post so not to confuse others.
The pics are great, my play is in the lever where it attaches to the power valve.
When you remove that castle nut and the lever, what is there?

be sure to start the motor BEFORE you check for any play in a power steering vette of your year...the wheels should be on the ground too...you must have pressure in the control valve to check for steering play...good luck....

Well just the control valve, in the picture it has been diconnected from the steering box and removed as a unit. once you pull it from the valve you just have the valve. I doubt your pitman arm is worn. Theres probably play in yoru steering box itself or maybe the rag joint.

Thank you midyearvette for that info, can see where it would make a big difference. Good point.
With engine running and wheels on the ground, there still looks like play to me.

Will have to get it on a rack and check it out better.

Most likely it is the ball stud in the power valve. The pitman arm has a taper in both ends and unless it was loose, I doubt that it is the pitman arm. The ball stud in the power unit is usually the culprit and is easy rebuilt. Zip has a complete kit for like $35 or so that rebuild the whole unit, seals and all. Did you have to use a puller to remove it and did the other end fall out or did you have to use a pickle fork or air hammer to remove the stud?
