Hi guys, I can't find a diagram that shows how the parking pawl/lever goes back into the mix. Everything else was breeze - but both shop manual and several catalogs just show the lever hanging out in the area of the top spring... not particularly helpful.
If anyone knows how this fits back in or has a diagram show how it does I'd appreciate it :)
Check the archives on this one. It has been discussed several times. Are you planning on rebuilding/replacing all of the hardware in the E brake system? I ask because the vendor that I bought my new stainless steel E brake hardware from had a nice diagram and layout. It made the changeout easier. Note that I didn't say easy - easy way is to diassemble the trailing arm and rebuild from the inside out. ;)
I seem to remember the levers "hanging out in the area of the top spring". I thought it was a somewhat sloppy set up, but once it's all hooked up you should be able to pull on the cable or the back of the lever and see it work (that is, spread both shoes, or one unless you hold pressure against the other).
Ijust did this job using SS hdwr and shoes and really didn't like the quality control on either. If yo check the archives you should be able to find my posts, but the short story is I had to modify the star wheel and shoes because they were dragging on the rotor ID. I positioned them vertical as in on the car but they still dragged.I faced off the star wheel in a lathe and drilled another hole for the bottom spring to catch-now they work because they are compressed more. watch out if you want to change the pins-one is between the dust shield caliper bracket. with the spindle in place I don't think you can get the bolt out that holds the sheild. You may be able to loosen the 4 mounting nuts enough to fish the pin in but I would leave it there if it's not damaged.
