Default Courtesy light delay unit

I just purchased a new courtesy light delay unit. Connected the unit to the plug and play connector, lights came on. I waited several minutes they would not go off.

Lights work with the headlight switch. Started the engine to see if that would trigger an off cycle, nothing.

I appreciate any suggestions thought on what might wrong.

My vette is an 1981

Thanks

Is it orange in color ? Is it new or used or rebuilt ?
If unplugging it turns the lights off then it is the unit that is keeping the ground circuit grounded, bad unit.
I will check the 81 courtesy light wiring diagram and see if there is anything else but I doubt it.

Straub is right. I was for some reason thinking you had bypassed by jumpering the whites and the system worked normally. :o Too many threads !!!

Thanks for the replies.

I will check out the door switch. I have already replaced the pass. side switch. How could I check t see if the switch is indeed bad?

If you remove the controller and put a jumper between the white wires the system should operate like a non-delayed interior light system. If the door switches operate normally then they are OK.
Make sure the GAUGES fuse is not blown.
