It took me about 3 hours to fit into my BB with A/C, the extra time was spent to grind off some of the flanges to clear the heads stud bolts and to relocate the idler arm a little. today I spent another 3 hours to fabricate a new pipe going to mufflers, I didn't like the stock pipes as they have some bad bends which look restrictive. I did all that with a set of jack stands with a MIG welder and a chopping saw.
I installed my Summit shortie block huggers in about 3 hours, with simple hand tools. problem was I didnt have a way to attach the exhuast so I ran open dumps for a day or two till I could get a guy to weld the headers to my side pipes;Im all for doing bolt ons yourself.
I was under the impression that the Summit Headers would bolt right up to my stock exhaust system..

You've got a collector flange that will have to be welded to your current exhaust so it can be bolted to the headers. Depending upon what sizes of exhaust pipes vs collecter size your working with along with the alignment of your current exhaust with the newly installed headers, is where the exhaust mods come in. Rarely just a simple bolt on operation. There's usually some degree of welding to be done to do it right. All of the time estimates are correct. 2-3 hours.
That is the most relevant statment here. Beware the Snowball. Assuming everything goes smoothly, 2-3 hours isn't to bad. One snapped manifold bolt can make it a 4-5 hour job, 2 snapped manifold bolts can make it an all day affair, and it could escalate to pulling the heads. Another thing to concider, my car is pertty rust free, but the exhaust is shot. Theres no way I'd be able to weld flanges on to match the headers without replacing alot of pipe. Is teh shop also going to remove the AIR system? Thats more time, not alot but it adds up. Being in the business, it's my experience that the simplest jobs take the most time thanks to Murphy and the Snowball effect.
