this is the noise I get when slowing down. I don't think I hear it under accel. Seems to be behind me. I don't feel any slack in U-Joints with car on stands. Rear end has a little play, but for it's age, it is doing better than I am (my rear drags a lot).
I can't really tell which part, don't have the extra cash to play R&R so I am asking my brothers and sisters here for the most likely starting point.
If you suspect the click is coming from the wheel bearings, raise the rear of the car and turn each wheel. A brinelled bearing will click with every two turns of the wheel. Some play is fine but not sure how much is tolorable.

new u-joins in half-shafts and oil change in diff and click is still here. will do drive shaft u-joints tomorrow.
If it is not that, the only two options I know of are wheel bearings and diff. I have rebuild posi-diffs but it has been 30 years since my last one and I no longer have access to the tools
Who is the best to do rebuild service on diff or rear wheel bearings?
I noise when braking or just off the throttle? What work has been done lately? Rotors that are machined too coarse will cause a click sound as they will pull or push the pads in their calipers, the noise repeats as the pads return to their original position and repeat the process.
braking has no effect on noise, but it is louder when slowing down than speeding up. Calipers rebuilt, new pads, new u-joints in half shafts, oil changed in rear end. Noise changes with speed. Slow clack at slow speed, fast at quicker speeds.

will I miss spoke. The front calipers were re-done not the rear. The pads are at about 50%. changing the drive shaft u-joints did not stop the noise. Moving the wheel back and forth did make a click noise. Feeling around led me the the brake pads. THey made a clack noise when the wheel reversed direction.
I noticed these rear pads did not have the metal plates cliped to the back side as the front do. Could this be the source. New pads would be a lot cheeper than wheel bearings and diff rebuild.
