Hello I have done a frame on resto to my 1980 corvette L-82 model. I recently replaced the A/C system with a new compressor, new drier, new oil, new orifice, . I also installed a R134 upgrade kit. I pumped the system down and had a leak check done by a qualified rep. No leaks no runs no errors....... However the A/C is not cold enough to suite me and i was wondering if there is something else i missed along the way.
I used to own a 1982 collector edition and i did pretty much the same thing to her and she was a lot colder than this 1980. I also replaced in the 1980 all new sensors, and switches along with the blower resistor, relay switch and the vacuum control switch as well, but still not cold enough.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Charge is critical on an R134 system. You may have too much, you may have too little. Does it cycle a lot?
No sir it works fine. I took it to a A/C specialty shop and it was performed by the book. The system was tested for leaks and i replaced all items in the system. To my knowledge it was serviced according to the chart
Just a thought. Is the air coming out of the vents too warm or too little airflow? Reason I ask is you didn't mention the evaporator. If you didn't remove the housing and clean the evaporator you may have restricted flow. When I pulled the housing on my 72 BB to repair a couple of holes, I found an amazing amount of trash stuck to the evaporator. Air wasn't getting through almost half of the evaporator.
Does the AC start out cold but warm up as the motor warms up?
That's the problem I lived with for 25 yearstill I found that the vacuum switch behind the glovebox on top of the heater shell wasn't engaging. That in turn caused the heater hose shutoff to stay open.
Hot/cold control has to be ON COLD to engage the switch. I had to make an adjustment to the switch and it now blows ice cold.....after 25years

The air is coming out of the vents not to cold I have good airflow. I can tell when the motor is revved up that it does get a little cooler but not nearly enough to say its worth having it on.
I live in northern OZ where aircon is a must.
Having a black car with glass T tops the belt buckles make good branding irons. after giving a fortune to wanna be a/c experts with no joy an apprentise fridgey said throw the original condenser in the scrap heap, they are big but not efficient, so he put in a small cheap (probably japanese) universal condenser in and bingo, instant cool.

This still sounds like the wrong amount of refrigerant charge to me.......
