Header wrap and stainless steel?
I'm making with some mufflers and internal heat shields for my Corvette's side pipes, and ceramic coating is not an option. As we all know header wrap insulates well but will rust pipes in no time. This is because it holds the heat in too well, overheating the metal, and causing to to oxidize rapidly. But I got to wondering, what happens if you wrap high grade(304, 316, 321) stainless steel with the wrap? Since it oxidizes conciderably slower, will it last under heat wrap? Thanks for the info.
