I was having some problems shifting at the end of last season. It didn't seem as smooth as it used to be and also gets stuck in reverse once in a while.
I've drained all the fluid and will be filling it with Lucas gear oil and the GM additive as recommended in a previous post. I'm sure I will need to adjust the tranny linkage and have heard of an adjustment tool but the only one I can find online is from Corvette Central (prt.#532088) and it only looks like a slim piece of metal/plastic. Can I make this tool? Anyone have dimensions I can use?
Also does anyone have instructions on how to use this tool? And how to do the adjustment on the linkage?
The checking part is easy- look for slop between the levers and the rods at both ends, and make sure all the bolts are tight. Adjusting is not to tough either. Shifter in neutral with the alignment gauge installed in the shifter, the rods should slip in and out of the trans levers without making them move from the center positions.
I highly recommend removing the shifter, taking it apart and giving it solid cleaning/regreasing. I had mine out of the car for 6 months while doing the engine swap. Went to put it back in and could not get it to shift properly. Went through all kinds of headache with the linkages. finally I took the shifter itself apart (disgusting!) and cleaned it. Works like a champ now...it was never the transmission or linkages to begin with. Just thought I'd mention that before you possibly start down the wrong path like I did.
