Talk about gospel! I think the days of finding anything worthwhile on E-bay are long gone. Even if you find a decent deal on the part itself, you'll get smoked on BS (inflated) shipping and handling costs. I've noticed the same thing locally. I've been looking for some tools, and it appears as though a lot of the stuff for sale is by people who want retail for their used stuff. Doesn't make sense to me. But if they actually get what they're asking, good for them.
I agree you really have to do your homework on pricing and not get carried away in the auction. The only things that I have bought lately on eBay are 2 iMacs for my kids and a cd head unit and speakers for the vette. I save over $800cdn on the stereo equipment and well over $2700 cdn on the 2 computers from their summer retail price.
Ebay buyers, do your homework!! This guy gave you the part number, and supplied a picture of the new but less than perfect headers:
You hit it on the head, do your homework. The buys are there from time to time on ebay, but you have to know what the product is really worth.. I got a set of decent driver shape 68 door panels for $50 a few weeks back.. New ones are $400 for the set. I got a pair of small block sidepipes + fiberglass covers for $385. Brand new? over $700.. Just gotta pay attention really, and not get "auction fever", having to win the auction regardless of price. That nails more people than you would think.
It drive me nuts (on both vette parts and other things) to see an auction go for more than retail. I guess people (morons) get caught up in the bidding and keep on going past retail price. I saw a video card I was bidding on the other day start at $25, go past $250 retail and finally sell for $400!! what a bunch of idiots...
