I put a 350 crate with hooker headers in, and the headers are very close to the proportioning valve. (Like half an inch) I unbolted the proportioning valve from the frame and moved it away (5-6" now), but i have a problem of the brakes "grabbing" when the car's running for a little while (>30mins). I figured this was caused by the brake fluid expanding and putting pressure on the calipers.
I'm looking to do a caliper/brake line replacement on the car, but don't want to spend the cash to get a new system with the same problem. Has anyone else had this issue? Could it just be the lines are old and need replacement? Every kit I've seen is the OEM style, and would set the proportioning valve back next to the header.
I wanted to see if anyone knew of a kit out there instead of getting custom brake line work done. I've also tried heat wrap and insulation, but i'm still getting the same issue.
Are you sure it's not contamination on the pads? I mean, if you just let the engine idle for a half hour and not drive the car, the brakes still grab? And what exactly is your definition of grabbing? The only way your system would hold hydraulic pressure from a temperature rise in the fluid would be if you had residual pressure valves and disc brake cars do not use these unless the master cylinder is below the calipers. And even then, it would hold no more than 10psi, which is nothing for a hydraulic brake system. Clarification on your issue will probably draw more useful responses.
if your brakes are grabing when you put the brakes on it may be your pads.if they are grabing after you brake a few times it may be your rubber lines need to be replaced .the lines have swollen inside .
