Mechanical to Electrical Fuel Pump Conversion

I have found that I have a leak in my mechanical fuel pump that is spraying oil (about 1/2 a quart in 100 miles). Is this a good time for me to consider converting to an electrical fuel pump? I'd really like to hear pros and cons.

If the consensus is to convert, does anyone have a source for some step-by-step instructions? My Haynes book only covers the mechanical type.

Stick with a good replacement mechanical pump.
Electrics can work well but are more difficult to install correctly.
