Installing a Tuff Stuff 80 amp ext, reg. alternator in my 76. The orig. Delco has two connectors (spades) which are parallel to the rear of the case. The new alt. has two spades which are perpindicular to the rear of the case (if that makes any sense) Wrong alt? Solutions? Thanks for any help.
The old style, external regulator alternators use the side-by-side connector. When GM switched to internal regulator alternators, they switched the connector to an end-to-end type (like you have).
You can make the change, but you're going to have to figure out which wire goes where from the alternator and the external regulator, and then the interface to the existing wiring.
You can get a GM internal regulator alternator that has a 100 amp output and will bolt right on. No mods, and plugs in.
