Default What should I choose??????

I'm lookin to buy a 69. I already have the motor I'm going to put in (350, about 490 HP) and matching #s aren't very important. So far I have came across 3 that spark my interest. I was wondering which one you thought would be the one to go with.

One with a 427 motor, 4 speed, and matching #s. Miles unknown, $10,000

One with a 350 motor, 4 speed, t-tops, NOM and need painting, Miles unknown, $3950

Or this one with 350, 4 speed, t-tops, side pipes, p/w, p/s, p/b, NOM, 116,000 miles, $10,900.

Given that I already have a motor, and would spend $11,000 on each car (all on the car, or on the car and then to paint/redo interior/side pipes/etc) which would you purchase? (sorry about the long post  )

It would depend on how many mods you want to do besides the motor. If you wantto leave it stock, other than the motor and side pipes, I would go with the 427 and store the original engine. If you want to do any mods I would go with the $3900 one, that seems cheap for a bumper car and you will not lose a fortune by losing the numbers. The red one for $10,900 is too much money for a non-original car, all you really seem to be getting with it are side pipes compared to the $3900 one.

Check the frame on all of them first. If the $3900 one has a bad frame (rust) it would still be worth considering, the others I would run away from though.

Well, if the one with the sidepipes has the actual chrome sidepipe covers instead of fiberglass, I'd probably go that route as those are worth $2000 by themselves (unbelievably). Otherwise, contestant #2 wins based on price.

Keep looking and go for a convertible. Nothing like the wind in your hair and big sidepipes making a ruckus. :yesnod:

Most chrome bumper sharks that sell for under $5k are basket cases, and I wouldn't touch them with a 30 foot pole. Without seeing the interior and chassis, it's hard to give a good estimate. You should really go through each section of each car and access the condition. Brakes, suspension, electrical, etc. Is the chrome good on all 3? You'll burn through $7k in no time doing paint and an interior.

My gut reaction is that the 427 would be your best bet, since it will hold it's value better than the other cars. If you plan to make permanant mods to the car, this doesn't really apply.

Getting around 490hp from a 350 is no easy feat! ($$$) What's in that engine?

What is happening here?? Big block, 4spd numbers match for that kind of money? Is the frame like confetti or something?? Also curious about how streetable your 490hp 350 could be??

Go with the 427 car matching numbers may not mean much now but if you ever decide to sell (to get another vette of course!!!) they'll be important. A 390 hp 427 still makes 460 ft lbs. of torque it'll, run hotter but will out accelerate the small block. The $3900 may seem tempting but paint and body work aren't cheap and if needs a lot of bits and pieces i've seen that scenario nickel and dime people into the poorhouse more than once. A numbers matching car is always the best bet even if it isn't always the best car double for a big block car.
